From the recording Sojourners
This track acknowledges a return to ancestral and cultural roots. “Nafsi” is a KiSwahili word that roughly translates into English as “soul,” or the core aspect of one’s personality and being. The lyrics attempt to convey the idea that “soul” is something that transcends space and time; it is an entity that creates and attracts friendships; “soul” is also a barometer that informs us when it is time to move on from certain relationships. Joseck Asikoye and I collaborated on the lyrics and he performs the vocals. Nana Frimpong contributed the kalimba, electronic lithophone, and other “natural” sounds that give the track additional depth.
